Participant Guidelines

Etiquettes

  • Be punctual - arriving early and staying as long as the floors are open gives you more time to work on your solution.
  • Silence your phones - or use the vibrate function in your phones.
  • Keep quiet - keep the decibel levels to a minimum. If you want to discuss something as a group, do it quietly, or move to another location.
  • Talking to mentors - they have taken time out from their busy schedules to guide you; use this time wisely.
  • Public utilities / facilities - you are free to use available public utilities (electricity, internet) or facilities (toilets, cafe), but please be considerate of others.
  • Treat others with respect - We ask that you act kindly, behave professionally, and do not insult or put down other attendees. Remember that harassment and racist, sexist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate for this event. If at any point you see a fellow hacker being harassed, please talk to the nearest hackathon organizer.

Rules

  • Work in a team of 3-5 people; teams cannot have more than 5 persons.
  • All code, designs, and/or hardware MUST be created during the hackathon. Third-party tools and libraries are exempt from this restriction. While you may not begin coding in advance, you can plan and discuss with your team in advance. Written documents and design sketches are allowed. You may also incorporate pre-existing material that is freely available to the public into your project, such as public domain images, Creative Commons music, open-source libraries, existing APIs and platforms, and the like.
  • Code written during this hackathon MUST be open source and available on GitHub.
  • There are no limitations on platform or technology for your solutions.
  • Teams can submit MORE THAN ONE application.
  • Teams MUST submit a link to a functioning prototype; if you are unable to complete a portion of your application, develop your screens on Sketch or Adobe XD to help illustrate the concept and workflow. Submissions that rely solely on presentations or mockups will be graded LOWER than prototypes.
  • Teams will be allotted a MAXIMUM of 3 minutes to present and/or demonstrate their solution to a panel of judges. At least one team member must be physically present and conscious to present the project to the judges during their assigned presentation time.
